In spanish we are working on presentation interviews
and we are learning about Argentina. Our spanish teacher, Senorita Olsen, is video taping them then grading us on how we brought our character to life. For example my character is Catilina Vergara. She is a girl that likes school. But there are eight more characters. So to wrap up this super spanish sentence, spanish this 5th grade year is MUY BIEN!

Social Studies
In social studies we are reading
about the Early American settlements. Colonists came from England, Spain, and France. They faced many hardships. We learned a lot about how our country formed.
Guidance
In guidance we are learning about Kelso the frog and how to solve big and little problems. All the fifth graders made a poster about its your choice and how you can solve a problem, such as walk away, go to another game, tell the person to stop, and you can make a deal.

ART
Art is a very fun class. We are working on pointilism. You draw out shapes and fill them in with only dots. If you put two colors next to each other they will look like a new color from a distance. It is an old style or art and is very
time consuming.

Gym
In gym we are playing and learning about the basics of volleyball. We practiced bumps, sets, and serves. We played our first game last week. We also completed Fitness testing in November.
Reading
We are continuing to read informational text and respond to questions using text evidence. We have worked on reading strategies: making connections, inferencing, main idea and details, and theme. We all are supposed to be reading 20 minutes or more every night for homework.
|
Mathematics
We worked on fractions. We added fractions with common and uncommon denominators. We also worked on writing expressions to represent multiple operations. We tested on Module four and will begin Module five in December.
Food Drive
Glenbrook Elementary School raised over 1200 items to donate to the PACE Food Pantry. Mrs. Krumrei raised the most cans with Mrs. Diemel’s class in a close second. Great job Glenbrook students and families!
Writing
We have continued to work on informative writing. We are making sure we have topic sentences with supporting details. Classes are researching as well to give great information.
A few dates to note:
*This publication has been created by Mrs. Somerville’s Class as a cooperative effort using Google Drive and computers.

The Veterans Day Program
On November Eleventh we had troup 337 come to our school. This holiday was not always called Veterans Day it used to be called Armistice Day! It still was celebrated on the same day. At 11:11 on the Eleventh of November everyone would be silent for one minute and they would remember all the people who lost their lives. On Veterans you should be thankful and happy for them they put the country before themselves, they went out fought in war for us and for their family!
