Breakout Boxes... a long awaited post!

Well, with the crazy schedules that the end of the year brings, we were finally able to squeeze in some educational fun!  I told the kiddos they were going to try out something new called breakout boxes.  Students need uncover codes to crack lock-boxes and reveal hidden messages, what a great team building activity!  A much needed break from crazy schedules and another fun way to learn our curriculum...definitely something we would like to do again!

All Hail the King... an American Revolution Activity

As we are learning about the causes to the American Revolution, we have been talking a lot about taxation and how the colonists were not very happy with the King for taxing them so much.  In order to get the feeling of the colonists, each student received 10 pieces of candy (money) and the king (Mr. Sufka) and the Tax Collector (Mr. Zurko) decided what they wanted to tax the colonists for and how much they wanted to collect.  Needless to say, we had some angry colonists with very little money left.  Thank you Mr. Sufka and Mr. Zurko for your help!
